About Newcomers

braceletNewcomers is a confidential support group for men of 18 years and older who are gay, or think they might be gay.

The group meets once every fortnight, and issues are discussed in complete confidence. A trained counsellor generally facilitates the discussion, however meetings are group based and informal. There is no scheduled programme of activities for Newcomers, participants can enter and leave the group at any time. Individuals are typically involved with the group for a periods ranging from a few meetings, up to 18 months. While a variety of activities take place, the focus is generally on assisting participants to gain a better understanding of what it means to be gay, by examining factors which have contributed to their life experiences, and how these life experiences may have shaped their development as gay men.

The group also organises social gatherings from time to time, as well as offering the opportunity for participants to have support for entering into other social activities within the gay community.
